Sangeet anchoring script: running order and sample lines

5 min read · Updated 10 October 2026

A sangeet anchoring script follows the night's running order: a welcome for both families, the couple's entry, family performances in turns, one or two games, and an open dance floor. Each link is two or three light lines, so the stage stays with the families. Below is a running order and sample lines in English, Hindi and Punjabi.

Sample sangeet anchoring lines in English

Welcome

Good evening, everyone! Welcome to the sangeet of [bride] and [groom]. Tonight there are no guests here, only family. So relax, smile, and get ready to dance.

Welcoming both families

A very warm welcome to the [family name] family and the [family name] family. Two families, one celebration, and a lot of dancing ahead. Let's hear it for both sides!

Couple's entry

The moment you have all been waiting for. Phones ready, cheer loud. Please welcome the stars of the night, [bride] and [groom]!

Inviting a family performance

The [bride's / groom's] side has been practising for weeks, and some of them are still nervous. Let's give them the loudest cheer. Please welcome [group name] with [song name].

After a performance

What a start! Groom's side, the bar is now very high. Let's see what you have.

Parents on stage

Now a performance from the people who made this day possible. Please welcome [names], the proud parents of [bride / groom].

Open dance floor

That brings us to the best part of the night. The dance floor is open, the DJ is ready, and nobody sits down. Let's go!

Sangeet lines in Hindi

(Welcome)

(Couple's entry)

(Couplet)

Dholak ki thaap hai, mehndi ka rang hai, aaj har dil mein bas khushiyon ki umang hai.

Anchoring lines for dance performances in Hindi

Use one of these before or after a dance. Change the names and keep each link to two lines.

(Before a group dance)

Ab baari hai us team ki jo hafton se chhat par rehearsal kar rahi hai. Taaliyon ke saath swagat kijiye [group ka naam] ka!

(Before a solo dance)

Stage taiyaar hai, lights taiyaar hain, aur ab aa rahi hain [naam], apne khaas andaaz mein. Zordaar taaliyan!

(Kids' dance)

Ab stage par aa rahe hain ghar ke sabse chhote sitaare. Inki taiyaari sabse zyaada, to taaliyan bhi sabse zyaada!

(After a dance)

Waah, kya performance thi! [Dulhe / dulhan] waalon, ab muqaabla kadaa ho gaya hai.

(Couplet before a dance)

Pairon mein thirkan hai, dil mein tarang hai, aaj ki shaam bas naach-gaane ke sang hai.

The same lines work for dances at a school or office function. For the full order of such a programme, see the annual day anchoring script.

Sangeet lines in Punjabi

Many Delhi families enjoy a few Punjabi lines on the sangeet night. Keep them short and simple.

Welcome

Saareyan nu sangeet di is shaam vich bahut bahut jee aayan nu!

(A very warm welcome to everyone at this sangeet evening.)

Before the dance floor opens

Hun koi nahi baithega, saare nachange!

(Now nobody sits down, everyone dances!)

Which games can an anchor play at a sangeet?

  • Couple quiz: five questions about each other. Who said "I love you" first? Who is always late?
  • Shoe game: the couple sit back to back, each holding one of their own shoes and one of their partner's, and raise a shoe to answer "Who is more likely to…" questions.
  • Family antakshari: bride's side against groom's side, one round only.
  • Dance-off: one dancer from each side, 30 seconds each, the audience picks the winner.

Keep games to 10–15 minutes in total. The families came to dance, not to sit through a long game show.

Tips for anchoring a sangeet

  • Get the performance list and song order from the family and the DJ a week before.
  • Learn how to say every name on the list. Ask the family if you are not sure.
  • Keep links short. Two or three lines, then hand the stage back.
  • Have a filler ready for when a group is not ready: a quick game or a shout-out to the elders.
  • Keep jokes kind. No jokes about weight, looks, money or either family.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a sangeet anchoring script be?

For a three-hour sangeet, the anchor's script is usually three to five pages: a welcome, the couple's entry, one short link for each performance, one or two games and the dance-floor hand-over. The performance list and song order matter more than long speeches.

Should the sangeet anchor speak in Hindi or English?

Most Delhi sangeet nights work best in a mix of Hindi and English, with a few Punjabi lines when the family enjoys them. Ask the families what their elders and guests are comfortable with before the night, and keep the tone the same.

Who prepares the performance list for the sangeet?

Usually one person from each family collects the list of dances, names and songs, and shares it with the anchor and the DJ. Please share it at least 7 days before, so the order and music cues can be set and checked.

Does Anu host sangeet ceremonies in Delhi NCR?
